AI marketing agents compared: what each one does, and when it asks first
An AI marketing agent plans and does marketing work on the accounts you connect, and asks before anything important goes out. Some are general agents that can also do marketing; others are built only for it.

TL;DR
- An AI marketing agent is software that plans and carries out marketing work on the accounts you connect, such as drafting posts, building campaigns or reporting on ads, and asks a person to approve before anything consequential goes out.
- General agents such as OpenAI dots and Grok Bot take on any job, marketing included, and come inside a ChatGPT or Grok plan. Salesforce, HubSpot and Wix add agents to their own platforms.
- Most agents compared here hold consequential actions for a person to approve; HubSpot instead lets you choose which actions run on their own. They differ on what runs alone and who sets the rules.
- overads is an agent built only for marketing: it drafts and schedules posts on 7 social networks, reports on Meta, Google Ads and Snapchat ads read-only, and waits for approval. It starts at $19 a month.
What is an AI marketing agent?
An AI marketing agent is software that takes a marketing goal, plans the steps and carries them out on the accounts you connect to it. A chat assistant answers when asked, and a scheduler posts what you already wrote. An agent keeps working between your messages, then comes back with drafts, reports or changes for you to approve.
The work it takes on is the routine part of marketing: drafting social posts in a brand’s voice, publishing them on a schedule, reading ad results and proposing changes, and writing the weekly report.
How an AI marketing agent works
An AI marketing agent works through the same loop whichever product it is:
- You connect accounts: social profiles, ad accounts, a CRM or a website.
- You give it a goal or a standing job, such as a post every Monday or a weekly ad report.
- It reads what it needs from those accounts and drafts the work.
- It holds anything consequential, such as a post going live or a budget change, until a person approves.
- It carries out what was approved and learns from your edits, so later drafts need fewer.
Agents reach your accounts in one of two ways. OpenAI says each of its dots has its own cloud computer and browser and connects to over 4,000 apps through plugins. xAI says Grok Bot signs into the tools you already use, including platforms with no API. Marketing agents such as overads instead connect to each network through its official API, which allows only what that platform has approved.
AI marketing agents compared
Six AI marketing agents differ most on what they are for, where a person approves, and what you must already pay for.
| Agent | What it does for marketing | Where you approve | What you buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI dots | General agent in ChatGPT. Any task; OpenAI's examples include drafting social posts for approval | Built-in rules, plus Custom Rules to allow, require approval for, or block actions | A ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium plan; the first dot is included |
| Grok Bot | General agent from xAI. Any task; its marketing examples cover social posts and paid media budget shifts | Comes back when something needs approval; holds paid media changes for a yes in xAI's example | A Grok plan (Premium and up on grok.com/plans) or a Cursor plan |
| Salesforce Campaign Agent | Marketing Cloud agent. Builds audiences, creates content, picks channels and send times, optimizes campaigns | Reviews and approvals built in before a campaign launches or sends | Marketing Cloud Next Advanced; more agent campaigns cost extra |
| HubSpot agent builder | Custom agents on HubSpot's CRM data. No marketing agent is listed; you build your own | You choose which actions run on their own | Starter, Professional or Enterprise; agents spend HubSpot Credits |
| Wix AI Marketing Agent | Agent for a Wix site. SEO, social posts, email campaigns and Smart Google Ads campaigns | Asks for approval before any change | Uses AI credits; Wix Premium plans include them, and sites with no paid plan get 30 a day |
| overads | Marketing agent. Posts on 7 networks, reports on Meta, Google Ads and Snapchat ads read-only, makes on-brand posters | Workflows ask before posting; you can let one post inside a time window and a daily limit | From $19 a month; 3-day trial on monthly plans |
Salesforce says Campaign Agent becomes generally available in Marketing Cloud Next Advanced by October 2026, with some limitations. Wix calls its agent Kleo during setup.
General agent or marketing agent?
A general agent fits when marketing is one job among many. OpenAI’s and xAI’s examples run from sales outreach and procurement to bug fixes, and one agent carries context across all of it.
A marketing agent fits when the work is mostly posts, ads and reports. It reaches each network through that network’s API, so it posts in the formats the platform allows and reads ad numbers as the platform reports them.
The cost follows the same split. Dots come with ChatGPT Pro, whose lowest tier OpenAI announced at $100 a month in April 2026, or with Business Premium. Grok Bot comes with a Grok plan from Premium up. overads starts at $19 a month.
How to choose an AI marketing agent
- List the jobs you want off your plate, and check the agent does each one on your channels.
- Check how it reaches each account: through the platform’s API, or by signing in like a person.
- Decide what must wait for a yes: posts going live, ad changes, emails to customers.
- Check what you must already pay for: a ChatGPT or Grok plan, a Marketing Cloud contract, or a HubSpot or Wix plan.
- Run one recurring job for two weeks and count how many drafts you had to fix.
Where overads fits
overads is an AI marketing agent for small teams: you describe a job in a sentence, it builds the workflow, waits for your approval and runs it on schedule. overads Publish posts to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Bluesky, Mastodon and Pinterest, and overads reads Meta, Google Ads and Snapchat ad accounts read-only. Every workflow starts out asking for approval, as the scheduling and approvals guide describes.
What overads does not do:
- It cannot change ads. It proposes changes and a person applies them in each platform, for the reasons in our guide to why many ad tools can read campaigns but not change them.
- On Instagram it publishes single-image feed posts, not stories or reels.
- It is not a general agent, so it does not take on email, code or errands outside marketing.
Another agent fits better when marketing is one job among many (dots or Grok Bot), when campaigns run on an enterprise customer data platform (Salesforce), when the team already works in HubSpot’s CRM, or when the business is a Wix site that wants SEO and email help inside Wix. Frequently asked questions
Can an AI marketing agent run my ads on its own?
Some can change campaigns after you approve, as in xAI's paid media example for Grok Bot. overads reads ad accounts read-only and proposes changes for a person to apply in the platform.
Do I need ChatGPT Pro to use an AI marketing agent?
Only for OpenAI's dots, which come with ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium plans. Marketing agents such as overads, and the agents inside Salesforce, HubSpot and Wix, are bought separately.
Is an AI marketing agent the same as marketing automation?
No. Marketing automation runs rules you set, such as sending an email when someone signs up. An agent works out the steps toward a goal, drafts the work itself and asks before acting.
Will an AI marketing agent post without asking?
Most agents compared here ask before consequential actions and let you widen what runs on its own. In overads a workflow starts out asking, and you can let one post inside a time window and a daily limit.
